Implants

Whether you are missing one or several teeth, you’ll want replacements that are as natural as possible and you may consider implants. Implants are basically a replacement for a missing tooth’s root. They last longer than bridges and eliminate the discomfort and inconveniences of dentures. Unlike dentures, which can be removed, implants are permanently anchored into the jawbone itself. Made from titanium, implants look and feel as natural as your own teeth, but they will not discolour or decay.

To consider implants, you must have healthy gums and a sufficient level of healthy jawbone to support the implants. When the implant device is inserted into the jaw, a chemical and mechanical bond is formed. During the following six months after surgery, the jawbone actually fuses to the implant. Once the healing phase is complete, a post is placed into the implants and a porcelain crown cemented onto the post. Implants can be used to anchor crowns, bridges, or dentures. The length of time required for the implant procedure varies depending on the severity of the case and the number of implants required.
